This poor site was down to ~15% live coral cover by 2009, to ~10% in 2012 when Coral Reef Diagnostics visited. Based on recent diver reports, much of the benthos that was once occupied by reef-building corals is now dominated by soft corals and, to a lesser extent, sponges. Although this is likely preferable to macroalgae (which are relatively rare in leeward Bonaire), it also means that this reef is in a net erosional state.
