Northwest-central sites-1 of 2: Pa33, 36-38, 42-44, 46-47. For sites 48-50, 52-53, 72, and 74-75 (n=8 sites), instead go here. Note that sometimes we used “Bb” to denote Babeltheop (the “mainland”) and sometimes “Aw” for Aiwakoko Passage in the site codes. Also, please note that, given the huge number of pictures on this page, it may take literally minutes to load fully!

Please note that sites PaBb51 and PaAw73 have been grouped with the “Northwest (southern)” sites (previous page). High-resolution habitat maps will be posted on the Living Oceans Foundations’ website in late 2019.PaBb33 (2015-1-21) Based on the pict…

Please note that sites PaBb51 and PaAw73 have been grouped with the “Northwest (southern)” sites (previous page). High-resolution habitat maps will be posted on the Living Oceans Foundations’ website eventually.

PaAw/Bb33 (2015-1-21) Based on the pictures, this windward barrier forereef site was one of the most beautiful of the mission. Only one P. acuta colony and three seriatoporids were sampled.

PaAw/Bb33 sampled P. acuta colony (PaPd52)

PaAw/Bb33 sampled Seriatopora spp. colonies (n=3; PaSe84-86)

PaAw36 (2015-1-22) windward barrier forereef

PaAw36 sampled P. acuta colonies (n=3; PaPd62-64)

PaAw36 sampled Seriatopora spp. colonies (n=3; PaSe87-89)

PaBb37 (2015-1-22) windward barrier forereef

PaBb37 sampled P. acuta colonies (n=2; PaPd65-66)

PaBb37 sampled Seriatopora spp. colonies (n=2; PaSe90-91)

PaBb38 (2015-1-22) leeward barrier forereef. Forgot camera. Sampled four Seriatopora spp. colonies:

PaSe92 (data), PaSe93 (data), PaSe94 (data), PaSe95 (data)

Sample one P. acuta colony:

PaPd67 (CHI=2.8/5; average; meta-data & health data)

PaBb42 (2015-1-24) Please note that we sometimes used “Wb” to denote this leeward barrier forereef site, since it was along the “western barrier” reef.

PaBb42 sampled P. acuta colony: PaPd74

PaBb42 sampled Seriatopora spp. colonies (n=6; PaSe101-105)

PaBb43 (2015-1-23) This site, which was a leeward back reef near the Aiwakoko Channel (see map above.), was a night dive site, meaning that P. acuta colonies (n=9) were tagged, sampled around noon, and then re-sampled at night (18:30-19:00). We also have PAM fluorometry data from these samples.

PaBb43 night time images

PaBb43 P. acuta colonies (n=9; PaPd75-83). Pictures were only taken during the day, though biopsies were taken at both midday and shortly after sunset.

PaBb43 sampled Seriatopora spp. colony (PaSe107)

PaBb44 (2015-1-23) did not dive at this leeward barrier forereef on account of setting up for night dive.

PaBb46 (2015-1-25) P. acuta was present at this leeward barrier forereef but ran out of bottom time. Only sampled seriatoporids.

PaBb46 sampled Seriatopora spp. colonies (n=2; PaSe112-113)

PaBb47 (2015-1-25; “Ngamegei Passage”) leeward channel reef

PaBb47 sampled P. acuta colonies (n=4; PaPd87-90)

PaBb47 sampled Seriatopora spp. colonies (n=3; PaSe114-116)
